Buying a package creates lesson credits on your account. One credit is consumed when a 50-minute lesson is completed — the tutor confirms it and a 24-hour dispute window passes. The free 25-minute trial consumes no credit. Credits are valid for 12 months from purchase.
Tutors set their own rate inside fixed bands: Standard $18–$28 and Examiner/Premium $30–$45 per 50-minute lesson. The band is shown on every profile. Tutors keep 75%; the platform takes 25% and shows it before they apply.
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay via Stripe Checkout, or PayPal. We do not store card details. Tutor payouts are batched weekly, minimum $50, via Stripe Connect or PayPal at the tutor's choice.
Unused lesson credits are refundable pro-rata, minus a $25 administration fee. Lessons that have already been delivered are never refundable.
Example: buy 10 lessons at $280 ($28 each), use 3, request a refund. Refund = 7 × $28 − $25 = $171. Refunds are issued by OpenMic English only — never by an individual tutor — back to the original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days.

No. Tutors cannot create discounts or coupons. The only prices are the ones on this page and the tutor's own price inside their band. If a tutor offers you a discount or asks you to pay off-platform, report it — that is a quality violation.
